PhotoLab uses AI to process existing photos: noise suppression and mask construction. DxO optical modules and manual settings help manage RAW development.

Start with camera data
DxO PhotoLab is particularly relevant to photographers who want careful RAW development. It combines optical corrections, color tools and local adjustments. DeepPRIME handles noise reduction and sensor-data processing, while AI masks select specific areas. This is a technical photo editor: a neural network does not imply generation of new scenes from text.
Before you start, check the compatibility of your camera, lens and format. Two files with the same extension may have different origin and support. Separately consider the varieties of DNG and pre-processing in other applications. Ready JPEG does not have the same stock for development as the source from the camera.
Detail and noise must be evaluated together.
After selecting DeepPRIME mode, look not only at the smoothness of the dark area, but also at the preservation of the texture. Small feathers, hair and fabric give a more useful check than a smooth wall. The final effect should be evaluated in a suitable preview or exported file, given the load of the mode on the computer.
An AI mask limits a correction to a specific object or area. It can be refined and combined with other means of allocation. The depth masks use the estimated structure of the scene to distribute edits; they do not create a reliable three-dimensional model of space. Examine the transitions between plans and complex boundaries before enhancing the effect.
Example: Evening bird shot
Open your own RAW shot at high ISO. Start with the optical module and the overall balance of light. Then compare the moderate noise reduction with a stronger one on the feathers and around the eye. If the background is cleaner, but the small pattern has disappeared, reduce the intervention. Do not rate the entire frame only by the impression of a reduced preview.
Highlight the bird with a mask and slightly change its brightness, keeping the connection with the environment. On thin branches and around the tail, check if the background is captured. Export the trial file and compare it with the original development at the same scale. In the series, save the agreed processing logic, rather than the mandatory coincidence of all numerical settings.
Computing, licensing and training
The official help directly confirms the local execution of DeepPRIME and AI masks: photos for these operations are not sent to DxO servers. It is also stated that the user’s own photos are not used to train these algorithms. This is a specific statement about these tools, which does not replace reading the general account policy and activation.
A perpetual version license and a full-featured trial period of the corresponding edition. AI acceleration requirements depend on the hardware; on a weak device, heavy previews can interfere with performance. Spend trial access to your complex sources and the right export formats. Mastering masks, color tools and order of development will take time.

DeepPRIME and AI masks are confirmed to run locally; the help excludes photo uploads and use of those photos to train these algorithms. The trial is time-limited. A public AI API is not confirmed. From task to first result
Practical example
- Task
- Develop RAW at high ISO
- What to prepare
- Several own RAW or photos of one shooting, including complex shadows and thin edges of the object.
Task brief or prompt
Working task in the photo editor: to align the exposure and white balance, to moderate the noise, to highlight the object with a mask for a separate correction. Preserve the natural texture and color. This is a sequence of actions with settings, not a promise of textual management of each application.
Expected result
A processed photo with a saved original and a verified local correction.
How to check the result
- Examine the skin, tissue, hair and makeup boundaries at the same scale.
- Check the supported format, final size and availability of cloud operations.
An editorial teaching example of a task brief, not the result of hands-on testing of the service. Check that the required mode is available, that you have rights to the source material and that the intended use of the result is permitted.
