An editor linking a recording to its transcript: changing words can change audio and video. It suits interviews, training videos and podcasts.

Editing starts with the transcript
In Descript, the original recording becomes text linked to the audio and video. Deleting a passage from the transcript lets you cut it from the clip; rearranging sections helps create a new sequence. The conventional timeline and visual tools remain available for more precise editing.
This workflow especially suits spoken material: interviews, screen explanations or podcasts. Search for a word and jump to the corresponding recording section instead of hunting for a remark. Check the transcript first: a misrecognised name must not lead to an incorrect edit.
How to prepare a long interview
Keep the original recording separately. Confirm participant names, correct important recognition errors and mark passages that must stay in context. Then reduce repetition and unsuccessful takes. Removing filler words helps only until the speech starts sounding unnatural.
Listen to the transitions. The text may read smoothly while an audio edit sounds abrupt. A pause can convey meaning or give the viewer time to watch a demonstration. Removing it merely to make the edit denser is not always sensible.
What AI Adds
The platform includes Studio Sound voice processing, generative features, captions and the Underlord assistant. It helps carry out editing tasks from a description. That does not justify trusting every automatic clip selection: a moment important to the author may be too quiet for the algorithm’s short-clip selection.
Turning an interview into several short posts
Choose complete answers that make sense without the full conversation. Give each a short introduction and check that the speaker’s caveat has not been lost. Adapt the framing to the platform and review captions on a small screen. Automatically placed text needs checks for line breaks, names and numbers.
Export, voices and plans
Transcription allowances, AI features and output settings depend on the plan. Synthetic voices and cloning require permission. Descript also has programmatic and MCP capabilities, but their terms need to be considered separately. Listen to the entire exported recording: that is what the audience will receive, rather than the clean transcript shown in the editor.
