Creating and publishing an app

Replit combines an AI conversation with an app-development environment. You describe a task, receive an initial implementation and continue revising the project. Unlike a tool that generates a picture of an interface, it provides app code and behaviour you can test through specific user actions.

The platform supports design, builds, data and hosting. These features suit prototypes of internal tools or new services, but do not automatically make every generated system ready for real customers.

Start with one complete action

A small request-tracking tool can start with creating a record, seeing it in a list and changing its status. Ask the agent to explain where the data is stored and who can read it. Add roles, notifications and payments only after checking that path. This makes foundational errors easier to find.

Demo data and real users

A polished mock-up can look finished while its buttons lack the necessary logic. Test an empty list, invalid input, repeated clicks and a lost connection. Replace demo values with your own and check that the expected result remains after reloading.

If the app has sign-in, test different accounts. A user must not gain access to someone else’s records simply by changing a URL. Never leave external-service secrets in code downloaded by the browser.

Before publication

See what packages and external systems the app uses. Check permissions, data storage, error handling, and recovery after a failed change. For a small prototype, this can be done sequentially across major scenarios. A service with payments or sensitive data requires deeper technical review.

Define a finished version in advance: working features, supported screen sizes and verification methods. This makes it easier to give the agent a clear task and for the owner to accept the result.

Costs do not end with generation

Replit plans and AI usage have their own limits. Publishing, computing, data and connected services may add costs.
