An AWS AI assistant for developing and operating applications. Before adopting a new IDE integration, consider the announced end of support for its plugins.

Assistant in AWS context
Amazon Q Developer helps you understand, build and maintain AWS applications. You can ask about architecture, resources, documentation and development approaches. Its context differs from a general writing chat: some capabilities depend on cloud-platform services and permissions.
According to the official manual, Amazon Q Developer is built on Amazon Bedrock. The assistant gets access to data and resources within the configured permissions. Before work, specify what interface you use and what it is allowed to read or change.
Announced change to IDE support
AWS says support for Amazon Q Developer IDE plugins will end on 30 April 2027 and suggests considering Kiro for similar capabilities. A comparison should make this clear: the product is still available, but any new long-term workflow built around the plugin needs to account for this limit.
Question about the cloud application
Suppose a team is investigating a resource-access error. Provide an anonymised description of the action and the denial message, then ask for possible causes and relevant AWS documents. Do not start by granting everyone full permissions: that may remove the symptom at the cost of excessive access.
Compare advice with your actual configuration and policies. Before a change, identify the minimum permission needed and a way to check the result. An assistant can find documentation faster, but architectural decisions must follow application requirements.
Code and infrastructure changes
Generated code and configuration need review, testing and a rollback option. Check new network permissions and created resources separately: they affect billing as well as security. An answer suitable for a demo project may overlook your production environment’s limits.
Access and Plans
Features and allowances depend on access method, account and plan. An organisation may further restrict assistant connections and context sharing. Current AWS guidance and terms are more useful than an old plugin-feature list, especially during a transition to new tools.
