Search as part of your application

You.com now presents itself primarily as a search infrastructure and inference for AI. Practical interest here is related to individual services: find materials on the web, extract the contents of known pages and prepare a response with sources. This is an independent search process that can be built into your agent or product. The card does not reduce You.com to the list of available other people's chat models.

The approach is useful to a developer who needs managed access to current external information. It allows you to choose which part of the work to leave to your application, and what to transfer to the service.

Different questions require different API

Web Search returns search results and page information. Contents is suitable when the addresses are already known and you need to get cleaned up text. Answer prepares a coherent response with the sources used. Research does more complex research with a few steps; depth and cost depend on the mode chosen.

These methods are not interchangeable. If you need to check a specific document, a new search can add extra uncertainty. If only the topic is known, extracting one pre-selected address will limit the research. First, determine the expected result: a list of sources, page material or a ready-made analytical summary.

Comparison of two official statements

For example, an agent needs to match function support from two manufacturers. Ask them to find their official documents, specify versions and restrictions, then attach supporting links. Separately, set a rule: the absence of mention is not considered a proven lack of opportunity.

After the answer, open the source. Check that the same product plans and generations are compared, and the page update date is not confused with the feature availability date. Such a scenario helps to build a verifiable work with the web, but does not replace an independent assessment of search completeness.
